Evening view of the Casino Lounge at Brasserie Hobart, with deep green velvet armchairs, a walnut bar, and warm brass table lamps

Casino Lounge

An Evening of Refined Ease

Step away from the energy of the gaming floor and into a space designed for conversation, live music, and a cocktail list that rewards curiosity.

The Space

A Room That Slows the Evening Down

Design Philosophy

The lounge is a study in contrast: deep green velvet, warm walnut, and burgundy leather set against a charcoal ground, with brass details that catch the low light. Every surface is chosen to be touched as much as seen. The armchairs hold their shape through a long conversation, the bar top is cool under the hand, and the lamps are placed so faces are lit rather than menus. It is a room that feels private even when it is full, because the materials absorb sound and the light never reaches the far corners.

Seating Areas

Choose between intimate booths for two, a long brass-topped bar, or low lounge chairs arranged for conversation. Booths are tucked along the southern wall with high backs for privacy. The bar seats twelve and faces the backlit spirit shelves. The lounge chairs form loose circles near the stage, close enough to feel the music without being inside it.

Lighting and Sound

Lighting is kept low and warm, with table lamps and candlelight; the sound is a curated mix of live jazz and ambient playlists, never loud enough to interrupt. The room is tuned so a dropped glass is the loudest accidental sound. On live music nights the stage level is set to conversation volume at the farthest booth, which means you can still hear the person across from you.

Cocktail Program

Drinks That Reward Curiosity

Signature Cocktails

  • Northbourne Negroni — gin, Campari, sweet vermouth, and a whisper of Tasmanian pepperberry.
  • Brass Old Fashioned — bourbon, demerara, orange bitters, and a flamed orange coin.
  • Green Velvet Sour — vodka, green apple, lime, and a velvet foam that settles like the room itself.

The list changes with the seasons, but these three remain as quiet anchors.

Wine and Spirits

A focused wine list spans Australian and French regions, with a particular emphasis on Burgundy and Tasmania. The back bar carries a curated selection of whiskies, cognacs, and amari. Ask the bartender for a blind tasting of three amari if you want to understand the difference between alpine and coastal bitterness.

Non-Alcoholic

A dedicated zero-proof menu offers house-made sodas, shrubs, and alcohol-free versions of classic cocktails. The Green Velvet Sour becomes a bright, sharp garden drink without the spirit, and the house cola is built from cinnamon, citrus, and a long vanilla bean.

Live Music

Music That Keeps the Conversation Going

Schedule

Live jazz and acoustic sets take the stage Thursday through Saturday from 8pm to 11pm. A rotating roster of local musicians keeps the program fresh. You might hear a piano trio one week and a solo nylon-string guitarist the next. Sets are announced on the night, never in advance, so the room keeps a little mystery.

The Experience

The music is designed to complement conversation, not compete with it. The stage is positioned so every seat has a clear sightline, and the acoustics are tuned for intimacy. You can sit at the bar and feel the bass through the wood, or take a booth at the back and let the music become texture.

Small Plates

Food That Keeps the Evening Light

Cheese and Charcuterie

A rotating selection of Australian and French cheeses, cured meats, and house-made preserves, served with warm baguette.

Oysters and Seafood

Freshly shucked oysters, prawn cocktail, and a daily crudo, depending on the market.

Desserts

A small selection of desserts, including a dark chocolate tart and a seasonal fruit sorbet.

The kitchen sends out plates as they are ready, so the table never feels crowded. Ask your server about the evening's market selection.
